A first-of-its-kind Chevrolet Corvette and a Ford GT were among the most expensive cars sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction on Saturday in Scottsdale.
The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the first-ever mid-engine Corvette, raised $3 million for the Detroit Children's Fund. The winning bidder, NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick, will receive the first retail production of the vehicle, which is scheduled to be built this spring.
A 2017 liquid red Ford GT, one of about a dozen Ford GTs to cross the auction block on Saturday, sold for $1.485 million. Another 2017 Ford GT in verde mantis sold for about $1.2 million.
Others cars sold Saturday include a 2020 Shelby Cobra, Simon Cowell's Bentley and a slew of BMWs that were owned by late actor Paul Walker.
