NEW YORK — New York will send an additional $600 payment to people who've filed for unemployment, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday morning.
He expects the state to be reimbursed by the Federal government. New York is also extending the period covered by unemployment benefits for another 13 weeks. People will now be covered for a total of 39 weeks.
Millions across the country are unemployed because of coronavirus.
That number will likely climb on Thursday. Many have been unable to file for unemployment because the system is overloaded.
