The deadline is nearing to submit a claim in a massive settlement involving Apple iPhones.
The settlement is part of a $500 million class action lawsuit related to accusations Apple intentionally slowed its older devices. Apple denies the allegations.
The settlement, announced in March, provides $25 with a limit of one cash payment per device. Deadline to submit a claim is Oct. 6, 2020.
A separate claim must be filed for each device. You can submit a claim online or via mail.
Covered devices are:
- iPhone 6 (iOS 10.2.1 or later)
- iPhone 6s (iOS 10.2.1 or later)
- iPhone 6s Plus (iOS 10.2.1 or later)
- iPhone SE (iOS 10.2.1 or later)
- iPhone 7 (iOS 11.2 or later)
- iPhone 7 Plus (iOS 11.2 or later)
People submitting applications will need to know their device’s serial number or, if you don’t know that number, use the search tool through the Apple ID feature.
The court will hold a final hearing on Dec. 4 to decide whether to approve the settlement. Payments will be sent out after that, barring appeals. The appeals process, however, can take more than a year.
