A banner supporting a woman who accused Cristiano Ronaldo of a sex assault was flown over Old Trafford during Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle.
A plane with the banner “Believe Kathryn Mayorga” was flown after the start of the game.
Mayorga said she was assaulted by Ronaldo at a Las Vegas hotel in 2009.
Ronaldo has strongly and consistently denied all accusations made against him, calling the story “fake news”.
Las Vegas Police re-investigated the crime in 2018 at the request of the victim but by the following summer had concluded that the claims could not “be proven beyond reasonable doubt”.
Ronaldo, it was ruled, would not face criminal charges.
Mayorga, who has waived her right for anonymity, is now pursuing him for substantial damages through a civil lawsuit in the US.
The Level Up group said they wanted to “remind crowds” of the allegations against him.
Ronaldo marked his return to Old Trafford by scoring twice in the 4-1 victory.
