CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WEEK) - Two accidents in Livingston County and one in Logan County claim 4 lives to start Father's Day weekend.
Around 9:00 PM Friday night, 54-year-old Scott Lightbody of Odell was killed in a motorcycle accident. H e was traveling on Route 66 in Livingston County when he somehow veered off the road and crashed into a culvert.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was performed Saturday. Results are pending.
Then, just before 5:00 AM Saturday, a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee with two people inside was traveling northbound on I-55 north of Pontiac when it collided with the back of a semi-tractor trailer.
Both vehicles were merging into the left lane on the highway as the right lane was blocked due to construction. Illinois State Police said the SUV was traveling at a "much greater speed" than the semi when it collided with the trailer and became lodged.
The SUV then caught fire and neither occupant was able to escape. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck, a man from Crown Point, Indiana, was not injured in the crash.
Around that same time in Logan County a man in a 2020 Jeep Wrangler attempted to flee a traffic stop in Pulaski, Illinois. ISP said he failed to turn the vehicle and ran into a building before colliding with a parked semi.
29-year-old Todd Walter of Chicago was trapped inside his vehicle until emergency crews were able to extract him. He was rushed to a local hospital but was later pronounced dead.
