Ohio natives claim gold in men’s 4x100 meter medley relay - WHIO Radio

TOKYO — Two Ohio swimmers are returning with gold medals because of their roles in the men’s 4x100 meter medley relay on Saturday.

Zach Apple, of Trenton, swam the freestyle leg, which was the final leg, of Saturday night’s relay finals, helping Team U.S.A. claim another gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, according to our news partners at WCPO.

Apple, along with Ryan Murphy, Michael Andrew, and Caeleb Dressel, set a new world record with their time of 3:26:78. The previous record was 3:27:28.

Also bringing home a gold medal is Hunter Armstrong, of Dover. Armstrong, a swimmer at the Ohio State University, will receive a gold medal for helping the team advance to the finals, according to our news partners at WBNS.

Armstrong swam the backstroke leg in Friday night’s preliminary heat. Murphy swam the backstroke during the finals.
