SAN ANTONIO – UTSA soccer scored three unanswered goals to rally from behind and post a 3-1 win at UIW in the first of three exhibition games for the Roadrunners, on Saturday night at Benson Stadium.
In an exhibition that featured three 30 minute periods, UTSA rallied from behind after allowing a penalty-kick goal in the first period to score three unanswered goals for a 3-1 win.
UTSA got goals from freshman Helene Farris, Lexi Bolton and Lorelei Mauldin to pick up the win, with Bolton, Mackenzie Kaufhold and Anna Sutter each earning assists.
"Proud of our athletes for coming out early in preseason training and performing well," UTSA head coach Derek Pittman said. "Our biggest goals in this game were to get everyone available 30-45 minutes of playing time, play someone in another jersey and stay healthy. We accomplished our goals and were able to start the exhibition season strong. We have lots we can learn from the film and we are looking forward to taking steps forward this week in training."

The Roadrunners fell behind early in the first period after a foul was called in the box, resulting in a UIW penalty kick.
UTSA responded in the 30th minute – just before the end of the period – to even the game. Bolton served a corner kick into the near post, with Farris, a product of San Antonio's Smithson Valley High School, heading in the goal to even it at 1-1.
After a defensive second period, UTSA's offensive attack came to life in the third. In the 67th minute, Sutter found Bolton – who ranks among the top scorers in program history – who spun and struck it low into the bottom of the net for a 2-1 UTSA lead. A native of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Bolton ranks ninth in UTSA history in points (26).
UTSA clinched the game in the 87th minute with a goal from Mauldin, a freshman forward out of Chandler, Ariz. UTSA pressured a UIW midfielder into a turnover which was nabbed by Kaufhold. She drove straight to the goal and ripped a shot from 30 yards out, which forced a save but the rebound bounced back into play, where Mauldin tapped in the goal for a 3-1 lead.
The Roadrunners return to exhibition action on Thursday, traveling to San Marcos, Texas, to face Texas State at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
