FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - Stephen Harper scored twice and the Fort Wayne Komets played shutdown defense to hold on for a 2-1 win in the clinching game of the ECHL Kelly Cup Finals.

Fort Wayne wins the series over the South Carolina Stingrays three games to one.

It it the 10th trophy in franchise history but the first since the Komets joined the ECHL.

It happened before a boisterous sold-out crowd of about 10,500 at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.

Fort Wayne split the first two games in the series, on the road at Charleston, then took Game 3 in convincing fashion at home to set up Friday night's clincher.

The Komets played an abbreviated season, starting weeks after the rest of the teams that took part. Several opted out due to COVID-19 challenges.

Fort Wayne earned the Number 3 seed in the Western Conference, then slipped past the Wichita Thunder in round one before ousting the Allen Americans to advance to the finals.

Stay with Fort Wayne's NBC over the weekend as we celebrate the Komets championship.
