Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene has again said that former President Donald Trump will not be returning to the White House in August and warned those supporting attempts to prove fraud in the 2020 election to "be careful who you believe."
Greene, a Republican who represents Georgia's 14th congressional district, spoke at a Women for America First election integrity townhall in Rome, Georgia on Tuesday.
While she said she didn't believe President Joe Biden had won the state of Georgia in presidential election, she cautioned that Trump would not be reinstated next month. The idea that Trump will return to the White House has been spread by some adherents of the QAnon conspiracy theory.
Greene began by discussing the 2020 election in the state's Fulton County, where digital ballot images have shown that around 200 absentee ballots were scanned twice before a recount.
There is no indication that ballots were counted twice in the official results for the presidential election.
She said: "Now, I also want to be very clear about something. Be careful who you believe and what they say."
"People are saying things like President Trump will be back in the White House in August," Greene said. "No, I do not believe that is going to happen. So I don't want you to be misled either. It's easy to get misled based on people's claims and things that they want you to believe."
"So I want you to be careful in that," she said, adding that she wanted to see a process where witnesses and evidence could be brought forward as part of an investigation into voter fraud claims.
Greene has previously dismissed the idea that Trump will be reinstated this August. She addressed the claim on Steve Bannon's podcast on July 7 and also warned people to be "careful in what they believe."
"I would hate for anyone to get their hopes up thinking that President Trump is going to be back in the White House in August because that's not true and I'm telling you that as a member of Congress, that's a very difficult thing to do," Greene said.
MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell is among those who have promoted the idea that Trump will return to office and set August 13 as a date when his reinstatement will be "talk of the world." The claim is based on the idea that evidence will show the 2020 election was fraudulent and Biden did not really win.
A group of the former president's supporters are suing Fulton County, Georgia officials in the hopes of conducting an inspection of 147,000 absentee ballots. President Biden won the county with 73 percent of the vote and won the state in a surprise upset by 12,000 votes. Two statewide recounts affirmed Biden's victory.
