FARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State University thrower Alex Talley and associate director of track & field Justin St. Clair have been announced as winners of USTFCCCA regional awards for the 2021 outdoor season.
Talley was named the men's Midwest Region Field Athlete of the Year, sweeping the honors for 2021 after he also captured the award for the indoor season in March.
St. Clair was voted the women's Midwest Region Assistant Coach of the Year – his ninth regional honor since 2016.
Talley, who hails from West Fargo, was one of only two athletes in the nation ranked in the top-10 of both the hammer and shot put at the end of the regular season. It was at Kansas's Rock Chalk Classic where Talley notched both of his season-bests at 71.05m (233-1) in the hammer and 20.19m (66-3) in the shot put. He was named Summit League Championships Field MVP after winning event titles in both the hammer and shot put.
St. Clair, in his 10th year at North Dakota State, led the Bison women's throwers to 13 entries at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds. Five advanced to the final site in Eugene – two each in the shot put and javelin, plus one in the hammer. The Bison were ranked No. 1 in event squad rankings in the shot and hammer and swept all four throwing event titles at the Summit League Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Six Bison women surpassed 50 feet in the shot put this season – no other program had more than three – and NDSU swept the top six places at the Summit League meet in the event. In all, the Bison women totaled 104 team points in the throws at the conference meet.
