Huskers Claim Five Event Titles in Close Meet Against Hawkeyes - University of Nebraska - huskers.com

Iowa City, Iowa - The Nebraska men's gymnastics team fell in a close meet 406.650-406.700 to the Iowa Hawkeyes. 

Despite the loss, the Huskers claimed five of the seven event titles. Sam Phillips claimed the floor title while Evan Kriley earned the pommel horse title. Dylan Young notched a career-high on rings to finish in first while Evan Hymanson won his second parallel bars title of the season. Dillan King rounded out the events claiming the high bar title while also notching a career-high score. 

Rotation One
The Huskers started off on pommel horse where junior Charlie Giles started the rotation off with a season-high of 13.90. Senior Mitch Tyndall followed with a 13.30. Sophomore Khalil Jackson earned a 12.90 while junior Evan Kriley matched a career-high score of 14.10, earning the event title. Sophomore Cooper Giles rounded out the rotation with a score of 12.25. Freshman Taylor Christopulos, competing in the all-around competition, notched a 12.55. NU finished with a team score of 66.75. 

The Hawkeyes started off on the floor earning a team score of 69.10. Iowa had three gymnasts earn scores above 14.00. 

Rotation Two
Nebraska moved to floor where Charlie Giles started the Huskers off with a 13.40. Sophomore Moritz Mueller followed with a 13.85. Sophomore Sam Phillips tied for the event title with a 14.30 while Taylor Christopulos notched a career-high of 14.25. Senior Jake Bonnay finished the rotation with a 13.70. 

NU moved into the third rotation leading 135.950-130.000. 

Rotation Three
The Huskers competed on vault with Khalil Jackson notching a career-high score of 14.15. Sophomore Dylan Young followed with a 13.60. Evan Kriley nails a 14.45 while Charlie Giles follows with a 14.30. Taylor Christopulos finishes the rotation with a 14.45. 

The Hawkeyes competed on rings for the third rotation where they finished with a team score of 67.15. 

NU moved to the fourth rotation leading 206.900-202.150. 

Rotation Four
Junior Dylan LeClair started the Huskers off on rings with a score of 13.00. Senior Evan Hymanson followed with a 12.00. Dylan Young notched a career-high score of 13.90, claiming the event title. Nikita Bolotsky scored a 12.50 while Taylor Christopulos finished with a 13.45. The Huskers finished with a team score of 64.85. 

Junior Stewart Brown led the Hawkeyes notching a 14.90 on vault, earning the event title. The Hawkeyes had a season-high score 72.10 on the event. 

Rotation Five 
Senior Griffin Kehler started the Huskers off with a 13.30 on high bar. Jake Bonnay followed with a score of 13.05. Evan Hymanson nails a 13.45 while Sam Phillips notched a 13.75. Junior Dillan King finished the rotation with a career-high score of 14.20. Taylor Christopulos, competing for the all-around competition, earned a 13.30. The Huskers earned a season-high score of 67.75 on high bar while the Hawkeyes earned a 66.30 on parallel bars.

NU went into the final rotation behind 339.500-340.550. 

Rotation Six
NU finished the meet on parallel bars. Evan Kriley started the rotation off with a score of 13.25. Griffin Kehler follows with a 12.80. Dylan Young scored a 13.55 while Evan Hymanson nailed a 13.95 score. Dillan King finished out the rotation with a 13.60. 

Taylor Christopulos finished the all-around competition on parallel bars scoring a 12.75, finishing in third for the day. 

The Huskers fall to the Hawkeyes 406.650-406.700 in a close one in Iowa City.

The Huskers return to competition Saturday, April 3 at the Big Ten Championships. The meet will be at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln, Neb. starting at 7:00 p.m. CT on the Big Ten Network.
